This is purely a guess (I don't have my iBook here, and I don't have a bluetooth phone), but in order for Bluetooth devices to 'talk' they need to be 'paired' together. If you have a Bluetooth enabled Mac then a Bluetooth pref pane should show up in System Preferences. I think that's where you do the pairing.

One thing I'm curious about is the whole Bluetooth code/PIN thing, that you have to input when pairing with a device - I briefly connected to a friends phone, and he told me to put in his code that was about 4 digits long.
